Barrel twist - how to determine:

James M. McAlister: you can easily check your twist rate by using a cleaning rod with a patch on it. Lay the rifle down with the rod just entering the chamber end of the barrel, and the patch seated into the lands. PLace a piece of tape around the rod somewhere near the handle. Mark with in a spot on the tape. Make a not of where the tape is in relationship to a ruler you lay beside the rod on the floor. Slowly slide the rod into the barrel and note when the mark you made makes one full revolution. Stop. Measure the distance. This is your twist rate with in a close margin. Chance are it is either 1:10 or 1:12. Probably 1:12.
