Ruger offers the Mini 14 in three styles: Ranch, Tactical, and the Mini Thirty. The Mini 14 has a short barrel, perfect for self-defense or hunting in ranches or wooded areas. The lightweight makes the Mini 14 usable by almost anyone. The recoil isn’t too bad either. These rifles are so simple, so replacing original parts can be a creative process.

You may consider a Mini 14 SCAR stock, which has more opportunities for optics, lights, and lasers. For the sake of this review, we stuck to more traditional styles of stocks. These will enhance tactical needs frequently found on ranches and farms. You can let your creative side run wild, otherwise, as long as your wallet will let you!

Why Should You Upgrade Your Ruger Mini 14 Stock

Ruger Mini 14 and a few accessories

The Ruger Mini 14 originally comes in a fixed stock made of wood or synthetic material. This one-size-fits-all is, unfortunately, not applicable to all gun owners. Somebody tall enough, for example, might find the stock to be too small. Some might also find the size to be overwhelming. A Ruger Mini 14 stock with a length of pull (LOP) adjustment will allow a better fit, for example.

That said, a better-fitting stock provides several benefits. With an improved grip, you will achieve better control of your Ruger Mini 14. You will also experience less recoil. With optimal support, your accuracy improves and you’ll have a better shooting experience.

Ruger Mini 14 stocks can come in different styles. You have the Monte Carlo, which is traditional and typically fixed. Tactical stocks, meanwhile, are adjustable. It also comes equipped with Picatinny rails for your Ruger Mini 14’s accessories. You also have the Bullpup, which offers a futuristic design. Some Ruger Mini 14 stocks have adjustable shoulder stocks and built-in pistol grips.

Brownells released an article for upgrading your Ruger Mini 14. This can help you in preparation for your Ruger Mini 14’s upgrades.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Your Ruger Mini 14 Stock

I’ve listed some factors that can help you decide on your new stock.

  • Material: I’ve mentioned earlier that the Ruger Mini 14 stock can be wood or synthetic. Your choice of material affects the performance of your stock. You have to check for weatherproofing. Vulnerability to oils and cleaning solvents is also a concern. Synthetic stocks are often preferred over wood stocks. Wood stocks attract humidity. These stocks are also susceptible to damage from cleaning solvents and oils. In contrast, a synthetic stock can withstand extreme temperature and humidity. These are shock absorbent, too. A synthetic stock is also resistant to damage from oils and cleaning solvents. Because they are stable, synthetic stocks are less likely to change shape or size.
  • Budget: Like with most purchases, you have to consider your budget. Plan accordingly so you end up purchasing only what you can afford. Additionally, you’d want to maximize your budget so you still end up with reliable items. A cheap stock might seem like a steal, but it might not last long. Conversely, an expensive stock might not offer more features compared to more affordable alternatives.
  • Installation: With most firearm accessories, it is often preferable to buy those that you can install your own. It can be a hassle to need a gunsmith just to install one gun part. Additionally, not everybody has an extensive set of tools. It is therefore a plus to get a stock that only requires minimal and easy-to-obtain tools.
  • Ease of Adjustment: As mentioned earlier, factory stock is fixed. It’s great to have a rifle stock that you can adjust based on your needs and preferences.
  • Laws: Federal and state regulations can be tricky. Some states like MD, NJ, and CT ban folding stocks. As a gun owner, you are responsible for learning applicable gun laws. The ATF website has handy links to gun regulations in various states across the United States.

Let’s now look at our recommended list of Ruger Mini 14 stocks in detail.

Performance – The Hogue Ruger Mini 14 Stock Sporter is a pretty recognizable style of stock modification since Hogue offers a rubberized stock for most rifles and shotguns. Sometimes, you just can’t beat the basics. The extended LOP and the rubber material are some of the great features of this stock. You can also feel secure and confident while shooting your Ruger rifle. The issue that some may find is that there’s really no adaptability to this type of stock. Either it works well with your body, or it doesn’t. However, it is a pretty common choice among gun owners because it is affordable and easy to access.

Ruger Mini 14 Stock Choate Mini 14 Telescoping Pistol Grip Stock

Choate Mini 14/ Mini 30 Telescoping Pistol Grip Stock

Materials – The Choate Mini 14/Mini 30 Telescoping Pistol Grip Stock is constructed from high-grade aluminum in an all-black color. This is a Mini 14 pistol grip fitted with Choate’s M4 telescoping stock. It’s like getting two in one! This makes the LOP more versatile for the shooter, letting them have the best pull for their body. You can adjust the LOP from 12 inches to 15 3/4 inches. The pistol grip has a textured design, preventing slippage during target acquisition or shooting. The Choate Mini 14/Mini 30 Telescoping Pistol Grip Stock fits the Ruger 181 and up series only.

Performance – The Choate Mini 14/ Mini 30 Telescoping Pistol Grip Stock brings a new level of grip to the game! We actually really like Choate’s style of pistol grip because they added the texture covering to it. Funny enough, you won’t find that often on Mini 14 stock mods. The telescoping aspect is also equally wonderful. Additionally, a few inches can make a huge difference in your comfort and ability to shoot accurately. You’re limited to Ruger 181 and up rifles, but it’s a great fit for those who can buy it. The only other downside is that the butt of this stock isn’t exactly fantastic, but it does the job.

What we say – This is one of the best Mini 14 stocks for those who need to play with their length of pull. For our gun owners out there who are still growing, this is a modification that can grow with you.

Pros
  • Adjustable LOP
  • Textured pistol grip
  • Durable aluminum
  • Lightweight
Cons
  • Limited to 181 series
  • Butt is not best

Mini 14 Stock Pro-Mag Ruger Mini-14 Archangel Sparta Stock

Pro-Mag Ruger Mini-14 Archangel Sparta Stock

Materials – The Pro-Mag Ruger Mini-14 Archangel Sparta Stock is an adjustable tactical stock. It is made from high-strength carbon fiber and glass-reinforced black polymer. It measures 28” in length and weighs 4 lbs. The collapsible buttstock has four LOP positions. The cheek riser is also adjustable in seven positions. With these in mind, even younger shooters can safely and properly maneuver a Ruger Mini 14. The top rail is aluminum, allowing you to equip optics and sights of any material, including glass and iron. The polymer construction with carbon fiber can withstand regular lubes and cleaning solvents. Every aspect of this is well-utilized, including the grip with the storage compartment.

Performance – The Pro-Mag Ruger Mini-14 Archangel Sparta Stock gets a point for the delightful name. Cool names aside, Pro-Mag has thought of nearly everything with this one, but you’re going to pay for it (literally). Moreover, the two-fold adjustability is the only option within this review that offers that, plus extra storage. The polymer is also great for keeping your setup lightweight. In addition, aluminum was only used where it was needed: on the rail. We are personally big fans of the look of this one, but that usually isn’t a deciding factor in our reviews. Really, the only downside is the cost of this option, which is almost twice what many other options cost.

What we say – The Pro-Mag Ruger Mini-14 Archangel Sparta Stock can be the perfect stock for anyone who can afford it. You have multiple levels of adjustment available, and you get the best of everything.

Pros
  • Adjustable LOP and cheek riser
  • Ergonomic, textured pistol grip with extra compartment
  • Aluminum top rail
Cons
  • Very expensive
  • Heavy
