A Quick History

Thanks to Dennis DeMille and Dave Emary, Hornady’s chief ballistician, long-range shooters may now enjoy the 6.5 Creedmoor round.

Emary’s need for a high-performance cartridge with an extended range led to creating this precise round. His goal was to create an efficient yet affordable cartridge.

Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor rounds

Emary first based the 6.5 Creedmoor on the 300 Savage. He started using the 30 TC case and chose 6.5mm diameter bullets because of its high sectional densities and ballistic coefficients. This makes the 6.5mm diameter an ideal size because you can chamber it in a bolt-action rifle and an AR-10 semiautomatic rifle.

In 2007, Hornady began making the 6.5 Creedmoor cartridge. For hunting and target practice, they developed a line of ammunition that is accurate in the field and at the range.

There was an increase in popularity of the 6.5 Creedmoor because of its remarkable qualities for long-range shooting and hunting. Because of this, manufacturers have also developed guns that can accept the Creedmoor round.

Several manufactures also provide 6.5 Creedmoor upper receiver kits for their rifles. Now, most rifles can chamber the round, and most gun owners can enjoy shooting it, too.

Smith & Wesson M&P 10

Specs

ActionSemiauto
Weight9.1 pounds
Barrel length20 inches
Overall length39.5 inches
Capacity10 rounds

The vast majority of 6.5 Creedmoor rifles are bolt-action models. Smith & Wesson, on the other hand, has developed a gun capable of firing this precise round. Semiautomatic M&P 10 is a gas-powered pistol that reduces recoil. It’s also threaded to enable the attachment of muzzle brakes and suppressors.

The magazine catch, bolt catch, and safety are all ambidextrous. You’ll also note that the gas block is more forward than on a standard AR rifle. It was M&P’s goal to allow the hot gas cloud more time to cool before it entered the gas tube by placing the gas port farther down the barrel. As a consequence, shooting is smoother, and the recoil is more controlled.

An oversized trigger guard on this 6.5 Creedmoor AR allows for a comfortable shooting experience. As a result, heavy gloves are not a problem while using this tool. The trigger is also very clean and sharp. Aside from recoil management, the rifle’s ergonomics are also great. When compared to a standard bolt-action Creedmoor rifle, it has less kick. Overall, the M&P 10 is accurate and an excellent option for anyone looking to become competitive with their target practice.

Pros
  • Consistent accuracy
  • Barrel is easy to maintain and clean
  • An excellent option for competitive shooting
  • Has less recoil
  • Has ambidextrous controls
  • Lightweight and easy to handle
Cons

KAC SR-25 (With 6.5 Creedmoor M-Lok Upper Receiver)

Specs

ActionSemiauto
Weight9-10 pounds
Barrel length16 inches
Overall length35.75 - 39.5 inches
Capacity20 rounds

The Knights Armament Company (KAC) specializes in making affordable AR-15 rifles. Since its inception, KAC has focused on producing equipment for the armed services’ elite special operations troops. Later, the founder shifted his business focus and built its first factory in Titusville to produce guns. With years of military supply, they know what to look for in an effective weapon.

The SR-25 also differs from a traditional AR rifle in several ways. It’s an AR-10 reimagined with M16A2 styling. For dependable tactical usage, it’s incredibly precise and meets military specifications for precision.

For both long and short-range shooting, the KAC SR-25 semiautomatic pistol is a great choice. Direct impingement and rotating bolt action are two of the features of this semiautomatic marksman rifle. You can use it with any hand since it has an ambidextrous bolt, selector, and magazine releases.

There’s a 7.62 flash suppressor in there for added security, too. The locking lugs are fully rounded to guarantee that they will survive for a long time as well. The KAC SR-25 may also be readily customized since most of its components are compatible with AR-15 and M16 parts.

Now, before shooting the KAC SR-25 in 6.5 Creedmoor, you need to get the upper receiver. The SR-25 and the M-Lok upper receiver kit are both pricey. There is no need to acquire an upper receiver kit with the KAC SR-25, making it an excellent option for current SR-25 users. It will be more expensive if you do not have an SR-25, so plan accordingly. The KAC SR-25 chambered in a 6.5 Creedmoor rifle provides excellent long-range shooting. If you’re serious about precision shooting, then this rifle is an ideal option.

Pros
  • Ambidextrous bolt release, selector, and magazine release
  • Very accurate and consistent
  • Easy to customize and lasts long
  • Excellent to use for long and short range action
  • Comes with a 7.62 flash suppressor
  • Reliable operating system
Cons
  • Very expensive
  • Needs to buy a separate upper receiver kit to chamber the 6.5 Creedmoor

The Super SASS or semiautomatic sniper system gives the best characteristics for an AR-10 rifle. It features an ambidextrous safety and uses a modified M14 magazine instead of the standard AR-10 and SR-25 magazines. In addition, the stock is a Magpie PRS, which is a high-quality stock for AR rifles. It also includes a free-floating handguard with Quad MIL-STD 1913 rails.

Super SASS has a ceramic-coated stainless steel barrel that is another outstanding feature. This weapon is also suppressor-ready. To utilize it suppressed or unsuppressed, you just activate or release the gas valve.

Precision Reflex Company’s gas buster charging handle is also part of the package. If you’re using a suppressor, this function prevents gas from re-entering the shooter’s face. Armalite’s three rail protectors provide protection while firing offhand. Armalite Super SASS also has a bipod with a lever mount attachment and polished stainless steel low-mass bolt carrier group. It also has an improved bolt, a two-stage trigger, and its sturdy bolt catch, among other characteristics. Last but not least, Armalite equips the Super SASS with an “O” ring made of rubber to bolster the extractor spring.

In the packaging, the Super SASS promises a 1 MOA accuracy. Furthermore, it is a semiautomatic rifle that is both dependable and accurate.
