For tactical or self-defense reasons, having a shotgun light on hand may be necessary for circumstances when the lighting is not good. An enemy invading your home is probably doing so at night, and a shotgun tactical light attached to your firearm can be a lifesaver.

Who’s there?

A good light attachment should not only illuminate whichever area you’re in, but you should also be able to use it as a means to confuse or deter your opponent. Of course, you also need a tac light that won’t make your weapon too top-heavy or throw off your aim. You also want to make sure that the gun still fits your scabbard, in case you already own one.

We’ve compiled a list of the top 4 options available right now and we’ll let you know which we think is the best shotgun flashlight for the everyday, tactical shotgun owner.

4 Best Shotgun Lights

AXEON Optics ShotLight 120-Lumen Shotgun Light

Materials – The 120-Lumen AXEON Shotgun Light is a sturdy, shockproof shotgun light. It is designed to be used with shotguns from the Mossberg 500, Winchester SXP, and Remington 870 series. When you purchase this light, three mount adapters are already included in the package. The light is also powered by a CR123A battery that ensures long-lasting battery life.

Performance – When turned on in complete darkness, the light illuminates perfectly. Installation is easy, simply attach the Axeon ShotLight to the end of the magazine tube of your shotgun. The light will shine wherever you direct your shotgun’s muzzle. With this light, you don’t need to hold a tactical light separately. Since the light is made to attach to the end of your shotgun’s magazine tube, you can simply keep both hands on the weapon. This Shotgun Light can provide you with an easy-to-access light, but if you need stronger light, it might not be sufficient.

What we say – The build quality of the Axeon 120-Lumen Shotgun Light surely matches that of much more expensive models. It also has a lot of versatility because of the universal fit. We would definitely pick this light as an alternative, but if we have the extra budget, we’ll definitely invest in a shotgun light with high-end features.

Pros
  • Shockproof
  • Battery and mount adapters included
  • Inexpensive option
Cons
  • Only 120 Lumens

Streamlight High Lumen Rail-Mounted Tactical Shotgun Light

Streamlight 69269 TLR-1 HL High Lumen Rail Mounted Tactical Shotgun Lights

Materials – The Streamlight 69269 TLR-1 High Lumen Shotgun Light is made of a 6000 series machine aircraft-grade aluminum body in all black, and it has an anodized finish. The glass lens of the flashlight has been finished to withstand high temperatures from the 800 lumens light capability. It emits a concentrated beam that offers peripheral illumination, and it can be transferred and fitted to a variety of weapons. Streamlight also offers several varieties of shotgun tac lights for many needs, including models with green and red lasers, strobe lights, maximum brightness, and maximum light range. A shotgun owner can choose whichever light suits his/her needs best.

Performance – There’s little to complain about the Streamlight Shotgun Light. The variety of shotgun tac lights offered is really nice, and the extra features don’t change the price, which really allows the buyer to only purchase exactly what they need. 800 lumens are also impressive, and it really illuminates a space with the peripheral light. The body is pretty durable, but there seems to be a lot of need for adjustments while switching between features on the flashlight.

What we say – We really like this flashlight, but it costs about $120 online, ouch! This is absolutely the best shotgun light for any gunowner who has the money, but that can also be the biggest drawback. The brightness and clarity of this flashlight can be incredibly useful and lifesaving. We say, if you have this amount of money for a shotgun accessory, you should invest it right here!

Pros
  • 800 lumens
  • Aircraft grade aluminum
  • Variety of laser and strobe features
Cons
  • High price
  • Needs frequent adjustment

SureFire DSF 500/590 Forend WeaponLight

SureFire DSF 500/590 Forend WeaponLight

Materials – Surefire is a high-quality light with a higher price tag. This shotgun light has a high-impact polymer forend with a textured surface for a tight grip and a Mil-Spec hard-anodized aluminum body. When it comes to controls, it has ambidextrous switches. You can easily control the light through its constant-on and momentary switches on the side. It also has an output-mode-selector and system-disable switches. Simply replace your weapon’s original factory forend with this light and you’re ready to go!

Performance – This light is extremely unbreakable with a lot of features that you will practically need in a shotgun light. It has a two-output LED that produces 600 lumens at its maximum setting, or 200 lumens with nearly twice the runtime on its high setting. The light gives adequate surround light for outside applications as well as close-quarter situations. And it fits the 500 or 590 shotgun series with a 6 3/4-inch forend tube and does not require any modifications. They also have SureFire DSF-870 WeaponLight for Remington 870 combat shotguns.

What we say – This light might not be the best option for you if the budget is tight! Even though the light costs about $324, the SureFire DSF can definitely meet your needs if you’re seeking a reliable, long-lasting shotgun light. What more could you want? It works excellent, has nice features, and is bright. We personally suggest this as a more expensive option for Shotgun Light.

Pros
  • Two-output LED 600 lumens light
  • Ambidextrous switches
  • Excellent surround light for close to medium-range applications
Cons
  • Expensive

Windfire Cree XM-I T6 Tactical Shotgun Light

Windfire Cree XM-I T6 Tactical Shotgun Light

Materials – The Windfire Cree XM-I T6 Shotgun Tactical Light is an all-black flashlight made of 6061T aluminum. It comes with an alloy metal rail mount that fits both Picatinny and Weaver-style rails. The lightbulb in the flashlight can put out 1000 lumens of white light that can reach up to 110 yards. This tactical shotgun flashlight has two light modes: a pressure switch for light as needed and an on / off switch for long-lasting light at the tail of the flashlight. The Windfire Cree XM-I T6 flashlight requires a chargeable 18650 lithium-ion battery, but it is not included.

Performance – Compared to the UTG Defender flashlight, the Windfire Cree XM-I T6 Tactical Shotgun Flashlight offers far more light power for a similar price point. Again, we wish all of the flashlights came with a strobing effect (we really think that’s the optimal way to deter a predator in the dark), but this flashlight does illuminate very well. We also wish the battery actually came with the flashlight. We’d be willing to pay more money for it to come with the proper battery since we’d still be saving some money in the end. Otherwise, there’s little to complain about this tactical shotgun flashlight.

What we say – The Windfire Cree XM-I T6 Tactical Light is a very good product for the money. It also costs around $25, but we just wish we didn’t have to make a second purchase for a battery. Altogether, this tactical light performs very well, even if it just covers the basics. Despite not having a lot of features, the white light shines very brightly, and it can reach a good distance for tactical situations.

Pros
  • Low cost
  • 1000 lumens of white light
  • Up to 110 yards of light
Cons
  • No battery included
  • Basic functions

Our Top Pick

We would pick the Streamlight High Lumen Rail-Mounted Tactical Shotgun Light as the best shotgun flashlight for this review. Its price is right in the middle of the road, and it’s worth the cost for the amount of durability and function you get out of it. The light power is very strong, so you should never worry about being lost in a dark situation. The brightness and clarity of this flashlight are incredibly the best, so you should never need to purchase a second shotgun flashlight.
